Uniquely aged in charred bourbon barrels, 1000 Stories Mendocino Country Zinfandel boasts a deep, rich purple color. This wine is a combination of two local historic vineyards. The first, the Luvisi Vineyard planted in 1906, and, the second, the Frediani Vineyard, which was planted in the 1950s. These two vineyards are head trained and non-irrigated, thus yielding one to two tons per acre. Even for a year like 2012 where larger crops prevailed these two vineyards had low yields that created intense flavor and incredible richness. The wine's deep color, rich texture, and lovely berry and jam notes bring distinction to Baron Herzog Old Vine Zinfandel. The wine was aged for one year in American oak barrels. This Zinfandel is very spicy wine, the nose is rich with currants, berries, and plums spiced with cinnamon cloves and vanilla from the barrel. The wine is medium bodied with sweet fruit and soft tannins. This wine goes particularly well with heavy meat dishes, such as steak or lamb chops or hearty winter stews. Serve at room temperature.
