Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2005
78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple color. Extraordinary aromas of spices and chocolate, as well as a beautiful expression of fruit. It is rich and dense.
In the old Gascon language, the word "Cos" means "The Hill of Pebbles." Appropriately named, Chateau Cos d'Estournel is situated on the banks of the Gironde River between Pauillac and St. Estephe, where it is clearly defined by the Cos hills. The original owner was Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, who was known as the "Maharajah of Saint-Estephe" for his elaborate parties and the exotic pagodas erected over his cellar, which have become a landmark in Saint-Estephe. In 1852 Gaspard had to sell the property because of debts, and in 1917 it was purchased by Fernand Ginestet. Today, Domaines Reybier owns the winery with Jean-Guillaume Prats, Ginestet's great grandson, directing it. Cos d'Estournel is a Grand Cru that expresses style—an archetype of a certain style of masculine elegance in which power does not exclude grace nor sweetness!
