From the commune of Savigny-en-Véron, the 2020 Chinon Les Barnabés is sourced from the alluvial soils of the Loire and the gravels from the Vienne. The wine opens pure, clear and fresh, but it's also deep and concentrated, with spicy notes of ripe cherries, black berries, raspberries and violets.
While Silvaner remains the second most planted grape (after Riesling) in Germany, it has always remained tucked in the shadows. Frank Heyden quietly makes this example from old vines, and the quality shines so brightly that all shadows disappear in a fresh, zesty, mouth-wateringly delicious wash of Silvaner-ish-ness. Juicy and floral from start to finish, this is a great example of coaxing the best from a grape.
Mussel Bay Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing white wine from Marlborough, New Zealand, known for its vibrant and zesty character. This Sauvignon Blanc offers bright aromas of citrus, passion fruit, and fresh herbs, leading to a crisp and lively palate with a clean, mineral finish.
The color of Gammes en May, the label and the clear glass may lead one to think that this is not a serious wine but they would be wrong. There is a gregariousness to Thierry Michon who is prone to take up the accordion at a moment’s notice but there is nothing frivolous about Thierry or his wines.
Lush ripe flavors of blueberry and boysenberry make this delicious cabernet the perfect partner for juicy hamburgers and barbecue ribs. Produced & Bottled by JVK.
“Viña Ijalba”
Those words had been following us around Rioja like a strange echo. Their name surfaced in nearly every cellar we went to—yet the estate remained mysterious. It didn’t take long before we gave in to temptation and scheduled a visit.
Regal, opulent, and commanding—the finest perfumer in all of France couldn’t craft a more stunning scent. Deeply golden, almost coppery in color, this Gewurztraminer should be served with something extra-spicy, or rich and meaty.
Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir.
Domaine Lucien Boillot Volnay 2010 is an elegant Burgundy wine that showcases the finesse and charm of the Volnay appellation. This Pinot Noir offers delicate aromas of red berries, violets, and a touch of earthiness, leading to a silky palate with well-integrated tannins and a refined finish.
The nose comes out strong and old-vine rich. Village maybe, but it's expansive on the palate and has 1er cru length and aromatic pedigree. Pierre Boillot is a rare master of both the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits–not only does he have the vineyards but also the savoir-faire and skill.
An uncomplicated wine ideal with fresh fruit based desserts and mild soft cheeses. Full bodied wine with honeysuckle and rose petals in bouquet. Rich and smooth with beautifully balanced sugar and acid give an extra interest by a touch of honeyed botrytis.
Pierre Boillot is a master of terroir-driven red Burgundy. With old vines, a focus on the vineyards and minimal manipulation in the cellar, his wines express the purity and elegance we all seek out in Burgundian Pinot Noir.
