Domaine Saint Nicolas Gammes En May 2016
The color of Gammes en May, the label and the clear glass may lead one to think that this is not a serious wine but they would be wrong. There is a gregariousness to Thierry Michon who is prone to take up the accordion at a moment’s notice but there is nothing frivolous about Thierry or his wines.
This is a thrilling rendition of Gammay with darker cherry fruit that one finds in Beaujolais but with a greater lift of minerality and finer tannins.
Selected by the biggest tables in France and abroad, the wines of Domaine Saint Nicolas, are highly qualitative, reflections of a unique terroir and an exceptional microclimate; all in biodynamic agriculture respectful balances. The vineyard offers white, rose and red wines from Pinot Noir, Négrette, Chenin and Chardonnay grapes. The first cuvees are characterized by fruity and refreshing characters that can be eaten young. Particularly renowned are the cuvees of guard with more complexity and elegance. Recently, wines in traditional method are also high as well as atypical amphorae.
