JH Meyer Palmiet Pinot Noir 2016
This Pinot Noir is elegant and silky with a lovely minerality and delicate cherry and other red fruit aromas.
Tasting Notes - Pinot Noir is a red wine variety that should have elegance, balance, finesse, and complexity. The wine has a wonderful minerality, a silky texture and a 100% French oak barrel taste that lingers throughout the palate. The wine has aromas of cherries and other red fruits and finishes like any other burgundy colored wine.
The Producer - Elgin is one of the coolest vineyards in South Africa. Its elevation benefits the area through normally lower temperatures, higher precipitation, and more cloud cover. Additionally, in the winter time, the vineyard benefits by much cooler temperatures than Stellenbosch or any other region, therefore, the vines go into a deep dormant state that brings about better rest which improves the life span of the vines and supports general vine health. Long story short, Elgin is rising as a magnificent location for creating some of the finest fragrant white and red wines in the Country.
Aging - The 2016 Palmiet Pinot Noir is aged in 300-liter barrels for a year in second and third fill French oak barrels and lees stirring, also know as batonnage, when needed.
