Dr. Lippold Uerziger Wuerzgarten Riesling Kabinett 2012
A riesling from a mystic terroir—The unique, red-slate soil adds minerals and creates a wealth of aromas of spices and fruits, in this case mainly that of ripe mango. The wine, released 12 months after bottling, will show its potential as an example of the great Mosel wines with further aging, gaining great complexity.
Since centuries, the "Wuerzgarten" has been considered as one of the best vineyard sites on the Mosel. In 1804, when "La Moselle" was part of the French Empire under the reign of Napolean, the parcel "Weltersberg," where the grapes for this wine originate from, was classifed as a "Grand Cru" at par with the Grand Crus in Burgundy, Corton-Charlemagne, etc. The small-sized berries are the fruits from pre-phylloxera rootstock vines of an average age of 60 years with very low yield.
