Artfully aged at a relatively mild 80 proof, Basil Hayden's is as novel and delectable a bourbon whiskey as it was when the master distiller rolled out his first barrel over 200 years ago. Marked by a rich cascade of aromas and flavors, Basil Hayden's is still a small batch bourbon, but with broader appeal.
The delicate flavor of American oak – vanilla, citrus and light oak – rises in prominence as the traditional Macallan European oak character of dried fruit, sherry and wood spice affords a familiar back drop.
American single malt whiskeys, however, are less regulated, allowing more room for experimentation. With a specialty mash bill of Washington Select Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Extra Special Malt, pale chocolate malt, brown malt, and peated malt, their specialty Garryana-aged single malt is fermented with Belgian Brewer’s Yeast for a total of 144 hours, and aged partially in a distinct oak.
