Vega Real El Empecinado is a red wine produced in the Ribera del Duero region of Spain. It is made from the Tempranillo grape variety, which is known for its intense flavor and aroma. This wine is aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrels, which gives it a complex and sophisticated character.
Inky bright-rimmed ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet displays sexy black and blue fruit liqueur scents complicated by suggestions of potpourri vanilla and incense. Stains the palate with sweet deeply concentrated boysenberry cherry cola and fruitcake flavors; a sexy violet pastille nuance emerges with aeration. Somehow cooperatives developed a bad reputation. While it is certainly true that cooperatives can make mediocre wine, it is also true that estates can be guilty of the same crime. It’s not the nature of the business that determines quality, but what happens in the vineyard and cellar. Burgans is a custom cuvée made for European Cellars by Martin Codax, the largest cooperative in Rías-Baixas. Founded in 1986 by about 50 families with small plots of Albariño around the village of Cambados, it has grown to include almost 600 families and well over 3000 small parcels of Albariño.
Mostly peppery on the nose with cherry and blackberry hints. The palate is gentle thanks to depth and freshness provided by humid winds coming from the near ocean.
