Yarden Merlot Non-Mevushal 2021
The 2020 Yarden Merlot presents aromatic red and black fruit characters with hints of fresh herbs, orange blossom and chocolate. This full-bodied Merlot displays good concentration of flavor and an attractive lingering finish.
While enjoyable now, the 2020 Yarden Merlot will improve in the bottle in the coming years, and remain in great drinking condition for up to a decade from vintage. The wine goes wonderfully with Merlot-braised beef short ribs, grilled lamb chops, roast turkey, or a porcini mushroom tart.
Golan Heights Winery was founded in 1983 in the Golan Heights. Here, in this breathtaking strip of land, everything begins with the right conditions—volcanic basaltic soil, suitable topography, and cool high-altitude climate. This unique combination is what gives Golan Heights its second name of "wine country." With over 28 vineyards that span over 1,500 acres and 4 leading brands under their belt (Yarden, Gamla, Mount Hermon, and Golan), Golan Heights Winery has played a significant role in developing and nurturing Israel's current wine culture. Yarden Merlot was produced from Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, all grown in the Golan Heights. The cool climate, rocky volcanic soil, and high altitude are ideal conditions for growing classic wine-grape varieties. Aging in French oak barrels for 14 months balances the existing orange zest and berry characters present in the wine with a layer of rich oak and vanilla.
