Wolffer Estate Merlot 2013
8.5% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 0.5% Petit Verdot. Wolffer Estate Vineyard & Stables, in the heart of the Hamptons, was established in the 1980s by Christian Wolffer. Their unique Long Island soil combined with the Atlantic breeze cultivates the highest-quality, sustainably farmed grapes. These grapes inspired the winemaker to create uniquely concentrated and elegant wines to fit every occasion and palate.
Dark red brick in color, this Merlot exudes beautiful aromas of ripe blackcurrants, prunes, licorice, toasted oak, and minerality. The wine has great concentration and an elegant mouthfeel. Lush ripe fruit is backed by rich, subtle, round tannins with a long, lingering finish. Great play between the fruit, delicate acidity, and soft tannins create an extremely food-friendly wine. An overall sense of balanced intensity makes this an extremely pleasurable merlot that will age gracefully for many years to come. Serve slightly below room temperature. Pair this wine with pasta, burgers, steak, hearty stews, or even paella. Try it with grilled duck, roast venison or pork, or seared tuna for a rich interplay of flavors.
