The 2019 Chemist is a blend of GSM, Petite Sirah and our newest member, Teroldego. The Chemist has a deep, inky purple color and aromas of berry cobbler, blackberry and tobacco.
The three varieties of Rhone are grown in our Backyard estate's vineyard and offer a sense of place and passion. We are working with McGah Vineyard Grenache in Rutherford to offer raise and concentrate along with great texture in order to complement our estate-grown field mix. Petite Sirah from the Shipoke vineyard in Calistoga completes the composition and gives focus and inky scope.
This original wine is a distinctive family blend-a hand crafted, homemade-style wine developed by our ancestors in sunny southern Italy over 100 years ago. Using Zinfandel, Alicante, and Muscat, we recreated the flavorful, fruity, full-bodied wines many Europeans enjoyed back home.

For six generations, the Herzog family produced award winning, quality wines in their native Czechoslovakia. Since moving to the United States in 1948, that tradition has continued under the seventh and eighth generations, with a commitment to excellence undiminished by time.
Ramey Claret follows the Bordelaise model of blending different Bordeaux varietals. Malolactic fermentation is completed in barrel, and the blend is assembled early so it is "elevated" as the finished wine.
The 2021 growing season was preceded by mild and dry winter weather from January through March. Winter rainfall was largely absent across Northern California and the Napa Valley entered the growing season with rain totals that ranged from 40 to 60% below normal and had temperatures that were two to three degrees warmer than average.
A chillable, medium weight red reminiscent of a Côte de Brouilly, but unabashedly Californian. Aromas of black plum, mulberry, and wild sage. On the palate, bing cherry, violet, and rosemary.
