Maison Bernard Magrez settled in Châteauneuf first of all for the exceptional quality of its terroir, but also because Pope Clément V, a Bordeaux native who owned Château Pape Clément, became the first pope of Avignon. His summer residence was Châteauneuf du Pape, thus creating a very strong link with Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves. Great wines always have a great history.
Red Sancerre perfectly illustrate the virtues of the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are fragrant, elegant, fine and they have delicate aromas of red berries, ranging from cherries to blackcurrants. They are well-balanced, supple and have a powerful palate. Both rich and complex, Sancerre is a reference for great Loire wine lovers.
With a southerly exposure, this 3.22 hectare vineyard is a mix of clay and lime. Oak barrels are used in fermentation bringing about soft and subtle tannins. The “Cellier aux Moines” parcel is very old with records dating back to 1258.
Les Beaumonts is a fine and structured red wine, with a very good ageing potential. Very fruity, complex notes of undergrowth and mushroom after a few years in the cellar. This wine can be enjoyed now or left in your cellar for a few years.
One of the region's most charming yet least understood villages, Chénas in the hands of Dutraive comes off as a Morgon-Fleurie hybrid, with ample structure and gravitas supporting its inherently elegant fruit and tannin profile. In the glass, it offers up notes of ripe red cranberry, fresh mint, and anise. The most utterly drinkable of the bunch, 'Papolet' is a pure delight to drink alongside just about anything, preferably with a light chill.
