Made from 90% Mencía, with Palomino, Doña Blanca, and Alicante Bouschet, these vines are located in several plots with an average age of at least 50 years. Vinification is 50% whole cluster fermentation and 10 months aging in clay amphorae. This a dark-fruited and savory dry red made with a touch of white grapes. Pair with a smoky chorizo.
Very pretty aromas of flowers and flower petal with hints of perfume follow through to a medium body, round yet fine tannins and a flavorful finish.
A delicious Rioja featuring grapes picked from three sub-areas of the region, this wine is intense on the nose and smooth on the palate. Notes of juicy red berries, cocoa, cedar, and herbs lead to a pleasantly long finish. We love it paired with bean dishes, soups and stews, or grilled meat; it's a go-to red for us as cooler weather approaches.
100% Tempranillo aged for three or four months in new barrels. Its short ageing adds complexity to the red fruits and liquorice aromas of this fresh Rioja. A tasty wine, rich in fruit, juicy with a sweet tannin structure. Grown in the most traditional wine producing area of La Rioja, enjoy on its own or with Lamb dishes and Iberian cured meats.
Valbuena 5º is the purest expression of red wine at Vega Sicilia. It is aged between barrel and bottle over five years, giving rise to the wine's name. The 2018 bottling is a vertical, zingy, crystalline expression, full of nuances, with a seductive and unctuous texture.
Alión comes from carefully selected terroirs located in the very best areas of the Ribera del Duero DO region. The soils complement each other, and allied with the same winemaking process used in Vega Sicilia, they have produced wines with a firm structure.
The 2016 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza was surprising, spectacular, elegant, clean and fresh like few vintages before. It was a superb year, with quality, quantity and freshness. It's quite the opposite from the previous 2015, which was a much warmer and riper year.
