Taittinger Comte de Champagne 1998
Amazingly fine, complex, bold nose showing savory, toasty notes and hints of wax and herbs. The palate is powerful with high acidity and firm, savory, toasty characters, as well as fresh citrus and pear fruit. There's a boldly savory character here. Waxy, herby, a little reductive and showing a hint of coffee. Remarkable wine with great potential.
Taittinger Comtes was the champers that James Bond drank in the original Ian Fleming booksaso, for many years, Americans believed it must be the best. They were not far wrong. One of the truly great blancs de blanc and from a brilliant vintage, for some the best ever, this couldn't miss. If you are planning on proposing any rime soon, do it with a bottle of this. At least if it ends in tears you'll have one good memory.
