Sauska Estate Furmint 2012
Notes of apricot, mint, chamomile, and jasmine fill the nose. Juicy aromas that remind of ripe pineapple are balanced by minerality and a buttery component on the long, creamy finish. Serve this full-bodied white with red meat alongside hearty root vegetables or classic French-country cooking. Enjoy within five years of the vintage.
100% Furmint. Hungarian-born businessman, Christian Sauska, maintained strong ties to his homeland while achieving great success in the United States. A life-long admirer of food and wine, he firmly believed in Hungary's potential to produce unique, high-quality wines. Formerly known as the Citizens Casino, the historical building located in the center of Tokaj in northeastern Hungary became the home of the Sauska production facility, cellars, and tasting room in 2000. Planted on 13 plots totaling 100 acres, this production area is steeped in tradition, but Sauska is continuously experimenting with the native Tokaj varieties, such as Furmint, Harslevelu, and Sargamuskotaly, as well are international grape varieties, such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
