Pinord Vina Chatel Crianza 2011
Deep red color, clear with flecks of ochre. Intense spice and barrel flavors stand out. If we swirl the glass, more fruity aromas appear which are typical of the tempranillo variety coupled with fruits of the forest. Smooth on the palate with moderate aging. It shows good balance between the oak and the wine which is still very fresh. Touches of cedar and oak. On the back palate, smooth tannins appear as time goes by.
100% Tempranillo. Bodegas Pinord dates back to over 150 years ago when the Tetas family began making white and red wines on their estate in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they had grown. In 1942, Josep Maria Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedes, just 2.5 miles from the original estate. The name of their vineyard "Pi del Nord" (Pine of the North) is what inspired the family to name the company "Bodegas Pinord." They have converted to organic farming, becoming the first winery in the region to be certified for organic practices. The winery is still in its original location, next to the Vilafranca del Penedes train station, where they had their own pipeline which went under the rails to fill up tanks in the waiting trains. These trains were sent around Spain, so the winery quickly became known for the quality of their bulk wines. Today, Bodegas Pinord makes more than five million bottles a year, with 15 organic wine products.
