Petra Quercegobbe Merlot Toscana 2006
The grapes are harvested in the coolest hours of the day and the wine is left to ferment in conical wooden vats at a controlled temperature. At the end of the process, it is refined for 15 months, first in new 600-litre demi-muids and then in barriques.
Complete malolactic fermentation takes place during this period. Refinement continues for a further 10 months in the bottle.
Petra is located in Suvereto, inside the Tuscany Maremma area, in San Lorenzo Alto. The estate spreads over 300 hectares and has vineyards, woods and olive-groves growing on it, suggesting a magic landscape almost fading away against the shining surfaces of Tirreno Sea. A territory rich in history and traditions, run across by a sort of path, the Greek culture exploring Mediterranean sea, the evidence of which is clearly tangible with the findings of ancient wine jars. The same path of most valued wines produced in Maremma and sold all over Europe together with iron and other products.
