Peter Lehmann Futures Shiraz 2010
Deep rich red color, a brooding center, and a bright rim. On the nose it shows ripe plum, dark chocolate, black olives, and a hint of currants. It has a rich and velvety palate with a fruit intensity which comes only from low-yielding Shiraz vines.
It has a superb, firm tannin structure and a long, balanced finish, ensuring a long life in the bottle. Perfect with roast beef, grilled steak, or hearty casseroles such as braised ox tail or lamb shanks.
In 1979, Peter Lehmann founded the Tanunda-based winery mainly to protect the independent grape growers of the Barossa. His vineyards account for less than 2% of total production, so the winery would not exist without the network of over 140 family farmers that supply fruit from all corners of the region. The first wine the Lehmann ever sold was called 'The Futures.' It was sold to friends and family on a 'pay now and we'll deliver in two years' arrangement. In all honesty, it was simply they needed the cash when they started to ensure they did in fact have a future! This 'Futures' wine is a toast to the faith of those friends and family, who believed in their dream every bit as much as they did. It bears the same name as that original wine and carries all of its spirited character.
