Ovid Vineyards Napa Valley Red 2012
In crafting the 2012 Ovid Napa Valley wine, Ovid Vineyards had a wealth of wonderful lots from which to choose. The resulting 2012 Ovid blend evokes this generous vintage with layer upon layer of rich flavors. Vibrant crimson and ruby in color, thre are fresh notes of dark cherry, forest floor, and boysenberry, bolstered by mulberry, candied violets, and blueberry.
Ovid (Publius Ovid Naso) was a roman poet who lived from 43 BC–17 AD. His most famous work, Metamorphoses, is a poetic narrative of the Greek myths, celebrating the themes of transformation and change. Each year, from small lots of fruit grown in the red, rocky soil of Ovid's estate vineyard (established Annon MM, "Year 2000") on Pritchard Hill, they choose just the best barrels and blend them together to create a new vintage of Ovid Napa Valley. The vineyard's evolution fascinates them—with each succeeding vintage, new dimensions of the wines are revealed. For their label, they chose a quotation from Ovid's Metamorphoses that expresses what they hope to achieve with their wine.
