Mastroberardino Radici Taurasi DOCG 2009
This ruby-red wine has a full, complex spectrum of aromas, particularly of violet and blackberries. On the palate, it is full bodied and mouth filling, with persistent and elegant notes of plum, bitter cherry, strawberry jam, and black pepper. Radici Taurasi pairs flawlessly with roasted meats, larger game, spicy Middle Eastern dishes, truffles, or aged, flavorful cheeses.
100% Aglianico. The Mastroberardino family has been involved in winemaking for almost three centuries. Official records suggest that in the 1700s someone named Berardino, with the professional Mastro ("master craftsman") title, founded the company's headquarters in Atripalda—the heart of the Irpinia winemaking region. Since then, the Mastroberardino family's holdings have spread across several parts of Irpinia, in areas which have historically been proven to be the production center of the region's great wines. Since the installation of a series of paintings (masterpieces from artists like Raffaele De Rosa, Maria Micozzi, and Doina Botez), their cellars have also become a fine arts gallery of sorts visited by people from all over the world. Radici Taurasi is Mastroberardino's flagship wine. Although first released in 1928, the wine became known as, Radici, which translates as 'roots' in 1986. This classic red is the result of painstaking research into exposure, chemical, and physical characteristics of this region’s unique volcanic terroir and topography.
