Marques de Vitoria Crianza 2012
Fairly dark, clean, and bright cherry-garnet red. Toasty notes from new wood against a background of very refreshing fruity hints. Tasty and pleasant in the mouth, it stands out for its great balance between wood and fruit. Smooth attack with a very pleasant, medium ripeness, although it will continue to improve in the bottle. This wine is recommended with fish with sauces. It is also a perfect match for white meat, roasts, or meat and small-game casseroles. Very nice with medium-cured cheeses.
100% Tempranillo. Bodegas Marques de Vitoria is one of seven wineries owned by Grupo Faustino, which was established in 1861. On July 1995, Grupo Fausino purchased Bodega de Cooperativa de Oyon, a small cooperative comprised of only 13 growers, and renamed it to Bodegas Marques de Vitoria (in honor of an influential Vitoria businessman who emigrated to Chile, at the end of the 19th century, and took a major part in the cultivation of Chilean wine). Located near Vitoria at the Altube Mountain pass, where forests with straight, 100-year-old oaks that seem to rise up to the heavens slumber, the bodega has become a landmark over the years. Their vineyards span a total of over 260 acres, with 14-plus acres of organic vineyards in Rioja Alevsa planted with 100% Tempranillo vines. Today Bodegas Marques de Vitoria produces contemporary, fruit-forward Rioja wines with traditional values.
