With such a mix of casks and whiskeys, the flavour was always likely to be complex and rewarding. Billy refers to it as layers of succulent fruits from the sherry butts interlaced with vanilla from the virgin oak, balanced with the pot still spice to deliver a silky mouth-feel. In Billy’s own words: “It’s mellow, like Jameson, with complexity delivered through pot still spices, balanced with a pleasant peppery finish.”
Jameson Gold Reserve is a triple distilled blend of rich pot still and grain whiskeys. Gold Reserve is matured in a combination of the finest Grade A casks that have been hand picked by our Master Blender, Billy Leighton. Unlike the rest of our range, Reserve also introduces virgin oak barrels into the mix, which contribute hints of spicy new wood. Billy picks up what he calls “fragrant floral notes”. The vanilla toasted oak aroma comes from the Virginia oak barrels and the fruity notes from the sherry casks.
