Francois Baur Pinot Blanc Herrenweg 2013
The white wines of Alsace, named after their grape varietal—and not their place of origin—are another world altogether: mostly light to medium-bodied, mouthwatering and will accompany fish, simple roasted chicken and vegetable dishes wonderfully.
For nine generations, the Baur family has been producing outstanding wines in Alsace. Located in Turckheim, where they have been living since 1741, they are the largest owners of vineyards in the Grand Cru Brand. Brand is the actual name of a hilltop situated above the town of Turckheim, where a local legend speaks of a wounded dragon that had died and the land still fertile with its blood, even to this day, produces "wine of fire" from the planted vines. In addition to their holding in Brand, they produce fine wines from the famed Herrenweg vineyard. They take a minimalist approach to vinification in order to produce wines which reflect the vineyard's terroir. Pierre and Thomas Baur currently manage the estate and have converted to biodynamic methods since 2001.
