Domaine des Anges Ventoux Blanc 2014
This wine offers lots of salty, saline-like characteristics to go with melon, green citrus and spice. Medium-bodied, rounded and textured, yet with good acidity, drink it over the coming year or two. Provence-native Florent Chave (he previously worked at Domaine Brusset in Gigondas) is the driver behind these solid Ventoux releases.
This beautiful tiny vineyard shares its name with the chapel of Notre Dame des Anges, who watches over it from the summit of a hill where Romans and Saracens once stood guard. Their footsteps, and those of the pilgrims who come here praying for a good harvest, have etched into the hillside an ancient path through fields where vines have grown for a thousand years, stretching across the valley to the sleeping Giant of Provence: Mont Ventoux. Long hot summers, cool nights and limestone and loam have created a unique terroir which, with the skill, experience and care of winemaker Florent Chave, fosters award winning wines infused with Gallic passion and Gaelic joie de vie.
