Domaine de Marcoux Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2016
Domaine de Marcoux brings the harvest back to the winery right after harvesting, in crates weighing approximately 110 pounds. Upon arrival, the grapes are destemmed, crushed, and cooled off for prefermentation maceration. During alcoholic fermentation, they closely monitor the temperature, pumping over daily. Maceration lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
Grenache and Syrah. Domaine de Marcoux is owned by the Armenier family, whose name was originally listed as Armani on Avignon's register back in 1344. It was changed to Armanie, then Armanier, and finally to Armenier, proving that the family have been winemakers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape since 1345. In 1990, the estate became the first in Chateauneuf-du-Pape to implement biodynamic farming practices. Their youngest vines are 40-60 years old, with as little as possible done to the harvested grapes. Today, winemaker-sisters Catherine Armenier and Sophie Estevenin continue to write history with their wines.
