Domaine Comte Abbatucci Diplomate d'Empire Il Cavaliere
This wine is made from 37% Vermentinu, 20% Rossala Bianca, 19% Biancu Gentile, 14% Genovese, and 10% Brustiano. We've had Vermentinu, or at least Vermentino, but not any of the other grapes. This is a dense and rich white. Floral and fleshy with a mineral-driven acidity and a viscous, oily texture. A heavy-weight that's perfect for winter and a finish that might last until spring.
Situated in South Corsica in the Taravo valley, the domaine Comte Abbatucci was founded in 1950. With 18 hectares (over 100 hectares for the entire domaine) of vineyards planted on granite slopes, the domaine is a real conservatory of Corsican viticultural history and heritage. Antoine Abbatucci, father of the current winemaker Jean-Charles Abbatucci, was a passionate man about grape varieties and he was asked in the 1970's to create a conservatory of the indigenous grape varieties of the "Ile de Beauté" (the Beauty Island). He planted the vines between 1963 and 1976 and successed in saving over 400 years of history and heritage.
