Chateau Cantenac was born one day in 1870 the locality "Cantenac". Anchored on gravel and clay promontory, this locality is welcoming! The Latin origin of the word confirms it means "enchanted, charming." What beautiful words for a Grand Cru! Chateau Cantenac is described as "the vanguard of the St Emilion vineyards" and cited as "2 nd Cru" in old Editions Feret, then the area will become "St Emilion Grand Cru" in 1954 with the birth of the AOC Saint -Emilion Grand Cru.
