From David C Stewart MBE, The Balvenie Malt Master: “This 1973 could easily have been used for PortWood when it was launched but luckily it was from one of our ‘plentiful years’. It has matured into a stunning whisky.”
The Macallan Exceptional series isn’t just another chapter in a good book you’ve been reading or a sequel to an epic movie you absolutely must watch – it’s an experience of sheer excellence symbolizing the mastery of whisky distilling captured and epitomized in every bottle The Macallan has to offer. Each cask is distinctive, unique, and characteristic in its own way, making the enjoyment of every selection available the chance of a lifetime.
The fourth volume in Laphroaig's Ian Hunter Story series is a 1987-vintage single malt that was matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in first-fill European oak ex-oloroso sherry casks, before being bottled at 34-years-old. Aromas of dried fruit, soft smoke, tobacco leaves, eucalyptus, heather honey, black pepper and cinder toffee fill the nose, complemented by notes of barbecued pork, sweet honey, peach, orange blossom, iodine, earthy peat and ashy wood smoke throughout the palate and lingering in the finish.
Malt and citrus fruits on a slight medicinal background, mingled with floral hints and a touch of smoke. Complex with honey hints and acid touches, liquorice hints.
This 2023-release continues the collaboration between Bowmore’s master blender Ron Welsh and Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman. Matured in a combination of American oak and ex-oloroso sherry casks for 22 years, this whisky offers aromas of heather, honey, cherry, lychee, tobacco leaves and aniseed on the nose.
This addition to The Glen Grant Principal Collection is the oldest to date to join its core range. The 21-year-old single malt was matured in a combo of oloroso sherry casks and bourbon barrels, selected and married by the distillery's master blender. You'll find all the classic Glen Grant tropical fruit character here, bolstered by sweet toffee, raisins, vanilla, and hearty baking spice.
If the sight of this golden honeyed spirit invites you on a journey, then on the first breath your destination is revealed. It's Islay. A nose full of beachside fires and you are well on the way. One sip, and you're there; the tang of the sea sweeps over you like the spray from an Atlantic roller.
Shimmering gold. Floral and malty with summer fruits, gentle sweetness and subtle vanilla. Refined for its age with ripe fruit notes accompanied by smooth vanilla sweetness. Full and rich with hints of oaky-spice.
Taste transformed by fusion. Matured in American and European Oak casks. Then finished in bespoke, recrafted first fill Rum and Bourbon casks, this elevated whisky delivers harmonious notes of sweet apricot and rich caramel spice.
No exaggeration – here’s a dram for those who seriously reflect on flavour, want high ABV and relish super heavily peated whiskies.
Tamnavulin, from Tomnavoulin, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, is one of the many distilleries built in the boom period of the 1960s to keep up with the public interest. Sweet and zesty with lots of fruity notes – such as pineapple, grapefruit and banana – through most of the dram but the finish is more mellow and provides a calming, smooth end to the experience.
