Angel's Envy Cask Strength Rye 2023 is a remarkable blend of two rye whiskey batches - cone batch spending three years in sauternes dessert wine barrels. And the second being transferred into new toasted oak barrels after initial maturation. By marrying the two, we found that the spicy toasted oak and sweet wine characters from each rye balanced each other perfectly - resulting in our first cask-strength rye whiskey.
For this 2023 release, Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall has drawn upon prior creative releases and continued product experimentation for inspiration. In 2014, the Master’s Collection released the first Pinot Noir finished Kentucky Bourbon in history, Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Finish. This was followed in 2016 with the first-ever American Brandy Cask finished Bourbon.
Nose: Upon Uncorking: notes of oak and wood char are notable. Nose: After Breathing: complex scents of dark fruit and sweet corn. Finish: A lingering finish mellows, leaving sweet tobacco and rye flavors with a slightly dry mouth feel.
