The 2022 has aromas of Meyer lemon, toasted nuts and fig are supported by the underlying sweetness of honeysuckle. What a back-to-back pair of vintages! I assume one would have to go back to 2002 and 2001 to find two Screaming Eagles this compelling. The 2013 appears set for 25-30 years of longevity. There is something magical about this Oakville parcel on the valley floor just under the looming hillsides of such wineries as Phelps, Bacchus and Dalla Valle's Maya, and across the street from the Rudd Estate, Plumpjack, etc.
This Rosè is a brilliant peach color. Pink grapefruit, pomegranate and black currant with a hint of wild aromas. Well-balanced acidity on the palate with notes of red raspberry and strawberry and a fine persistent perlage.
The 2015 Firebelle is their Merlot-dominated cuvée. Coming from the sandy soils called Bale Loam it’s a blend of 71% Merlot 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. This is a more tightly knit wine with loads of lack fruits mocha and coffee bean some licorice and tar.
