Clear, firm, quite fresh aroma of red and a little black berries with floral nuances and a touch of citrus zest as well as hints of soup herbs and tar. Taut, tart, juicy, youthful fruit, nutty aromas, a little cocoa and a hint of coffee, some acidity, present, yet fine tannin, persistent, has power, salt in the background, also a little herbs and pepper, quite polished, very good, juicy and spicy finish with traction.
What a back-to-back pair of vintages! I assume one would have to go back to 2002 and 2001 to find two Screaming Eagles this compelling. The 2013 appears set for 25-30 years of longevity. Raised in chalky and fast draining white volcanic soil, the vines are sheltered from cool fog by warm and moderating breezes.
This wine is a proprietary blend from the winemakers at Psagot, which means that the grapes will not be revealed but I'm guessing there is either some Syrah or Zinfandel due to the spicy nature of the wine.
See a dark amber and dark orange cast. This full bodied bourbon is reminiscent of oiled leather, smoke, minerals, coffee and cigar boxes. Take in the endless ranges of aromatics and flavors. Enjoy the infinite finish.
