Maison Bernard Magrez settled in Châteauneuf first of all for the exceptional quality of its terroir, but also because Pope Clément V, a Bordeaux native who owned Château Pape Clément, became the first pope of Avignon. His summer residence was Châteauneuf du Pape, thus creating a very strong link with Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves. Great wines always have a great history.
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Les Hautes Brusquières (60/40 Grenache and Syrah) comes from a cooler terroir near the Mount Redon plateau and was brought up in oak tronconique tanks and demi-muids.
Domaine Champet was founded by Emile Champet, who was one of the first pioneers to cultivate vineyards in the rugged woods of La Vialliere. Today, his grandsons Romain and Maxime carry on the family’s legacy by continuing to vinify wines in the traditional regional style (100% whole clusters, native yeasts, and aging in neutral barrels).
The three varieties of Rhone are grown in our Backyard estate's vineyard and offer a sense of place and passion. We are working with McGah Vineyard Grenache in Rutherford to offer raise and concentrate along with great texture in order to complement our estate-grown field mix. Petite Sirah from the Shipoke vineyard in Calistoga completes the composition and gives focus and inky scope.
Alluring, with dark cherry, raspberry and blackberry puree flavors that are streamlined in feel, flecked with anise, mesquite and fruitcake hints as they drive through the focused finish. Finely beaded acidity keeps everything in place. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2038.
Almost entirely Merlot, this wine comes from a vineyard made up of 13 different parcels. Richness comes from the Merlot that dominates, offering generous black fruits, ripe tannins and finishing acidity. The wine will be ready from 2023.
Color: A bright dark wine shot through with highlights.Nose: The noticeable red fruit in the nose is accompanied by aromas of cinnamon and spice.Mouth: Full of jammy red fruit (strawberry), rounded and well-balanced and finishes on notes of spice (vanilla, pepper).
