A nearly opaque color sets in the glass with a hard, red complexion that is almost black. Aromas of ripe blueberries and candied plum mingle with toasted oak and charred vanilla. Yamazaki Golden Promise barley, originating from Scotland in the 1960s, stands out as a superior grain prized for its distinctive qualities. Initially cultivated for Scotch whisky production, its influence has expanded to other renowned spirits, including the revered Yamazaki whisky from Japan.

Those words had been following us around Rioja like a strange echo. Their name surfaced in nearly every cellar we went to—yet the estate remained mysterious. It didn’t take long before we gave in to temptation and scheduled a visit.
In 1986, a small block of Abbey Ridge vineyard was specially planted with the Martin Ray Massale of Pino Noir. Now, 30 years later, we harvested and fermented these vines separately to produce 2 berrels of an exceptional wine.
