The centerpiece of the portfolio, GAJA Barbaresco is a testament to the Gaja family's historic commitment to the appellation and its belief that Barbaresco stands proudly with the great growing regions of the world. The GAJA winery stopped sourcing fruit from other growers in 1961 in order to ensure the utmost quality in its wines. In all, GAJA Barbaresco is produced using grapes grown in 14 vineyards in the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso.
The 2020 Tignanello is an intense ruby red in color. Complex notes of ripe red fruits, especially cherries, are highlighted along with berries and floral notes. Its bouquet is complemented by notes of roasted coffee and cocoa powder. On the palate, the wine is vibrant with a layered mouthfeel and silky tannins. Tignanello closes with spicy notes of pepper, licorice and herbs with a fresh, lengthy finish.
Grown predominantly along the sun-kissed coastal vineyards in Tuscany, Vermentino captures the essence of the Mediterranean Sea with its pronounced salinity, leading to a captivating phenolic finish. With notes of white flowers, stone, and Mediterranean spices, this complex and light-bodied white wine is persistent, full and well-balanced with nice minerality and bright acidity. Best served slightly chilled.
The Primitivo di Manduria Sessantanni Old Vines di San Marzano is born in vineyards located in the municipalities of San Marzano and Sava.
The butteri are among Italy's most skilled horsemen and women. A kinship bound by honor and integrity, they are devoted to upholding the ancient tradition of herding wild cattle through Tuscany's rugged terrain.
This fabulous wine is composed by 100% Chardonnay and praises the denomination Alto Adige DOC. The vineyards are cultivated in the classic area of Cornaiano, on the hills of Oltradige and in Egna, where the lands reach 500 meters elevation. The soils are mainly composed by minerals, created by sediments that date to the glacial era.
Roero Arneis by Malvirà winery is an excellent white wine made with 100% Arneis grapes harvested in different plots of Roero vineyards. In the glass it is bright and pale, with a beautiful straw yellow color; it has a fresh and fruity bouquet with hints of peach, elder flower, acacia and aromatic herbs. The taste is fresh and sapid, structured and balanced. Roero Arneis by Malvirà is excellent served fresh with fish main courses, raw fish, shellfish and fresh cheese.
The 2019 Barolo Ravera di Monforte is a powerful, searing wine. Red cherry fruit, leather, cedar, mint, iron, white pepper and dried flowers build in a mid-weight, tannic Barolo that is going to need time to be at its best. There is good tension and energy, but my impression is that the 2019 is recovering from its bottling, as it is very tight and sinewy in feel today.
