Maison Bernard Magrez settled in Châteauneuf first of all for the exceptional quality of its terroir, but also because Pope Clément V, a Bordeaux native who owned Château Pape Clément, became the first pope of Avignon. His summer residence was Châteauneuf du Pape, thus creating a very strong link with Château Pape Clément, Grand Cru Classé de Graves. Great wines always have a great history.
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Les Hautes Brusquières (60/40 Grenache and Syrah) comes from a cooler terroir near the Mount Redon plateau and was brought up in oak tronconique tanks and demi-muids.
Alluring, with dark cherry, raspberry and blackberry puree flavors that are streamlined in feel, flecked with anise, mesquite and fruitcake hints as they drive through the focused finish. Finely beaded acidity keeps everything in place. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2038.
Color: A bright dark wine shot through with highlights.Nose: The noticeable red fruit in the nose is accompanied by aromas of cinnamon and spice.Mouth: Full of jammy red fruit (strawberry), rounded and well-balanced and finishes on notes of spice (vanilla, pepper). The youthful tannins mean it will last quite a while.
This young 2022 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits reveals an impressive depth, combining notes of red cherries, tart and sweet raspberries, and just a hint of violets.
