Grivot's 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Roncières has a clean, quite pure bouquet with cranberry, bergamot and wild hedgerow aromas, developing rose petal/pressed flower scents with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, fleshy and rounded with a caressing, poised finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents.
The lieux-dit, Chambertin is charged with prestige. Perhaps one of Burgundy's most aristocratic appellations and greatest terroir. The domaine purchased its parcel in 1919 and the goal has been always to show off the underlying terroir, creating soil-driven and absolutely pure wines harkening to an earlier era.
Every wine by Domaine Lucien Boillot is a classic representation of its appellation–from Volnay and Pommard to Gevrey and Nuits-Saint-Georges, as Pierre’s work in the cellars is geared towards transparent, terroir-driven wines of purity and finesse.
Aromas of fresh violets and roses, ripe cherries, plums, clove, and a touch of bacon fat leap out of the glass and definitely raise eyebrows. On the palate, it’s sleek, silky, and complete.
This Cabernet Sauvignon expresses captivating aromas of mocha, ripe berries, violets, and blackcurrant with intertwining layers of subtle black pepper, toasted oak and rich vanilla. This beautifully crafted Cabernet Sauvignon enters the palate with layers of ripe blackberry and chocolate covered cherries.
This Chardonnay opens with rich notes of vanilla bean and almond husk, reminiscent of a decadent crème brûlée. The creamy notes are balanced by a soft minerality and a hint of tropical fruit.
The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru matures in around 50% new oak has a well-defined bouquet with scents of Earl Grey infusing the dark berry fruit (darker than Rossignol-Trapet’s Premier Crus for example.)
Revisited in bottle, the 2021 Santenay Rouge Gravité has fulfilled all the potential it displayed from barrel. Mingling aromas of blackberries and cassis with hints of menthol, orange oil and exotic spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a fleshy, strikingly concentrated core of fruit that's framed by supple tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish.
Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru 2021 is a refined Burgundy showcasing the elegance of Volnay. This wine offers delicate aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and rose petals, with a silky texture and vibrant acidity.
The generic Santenay is made from old vines – 50 years of average age – is a good start. It’s quite forward – 70% whole cluster – with a lovely organic fruit spiced with cinnamon and allspice.
Anne-Marie and Jean-Marc Vincent inherited most of their vines, principally located in and around the village of Santenay in the southern Côte de Beaune, from Jean-Marc’s grandfather, André Bardollet-Bravard.
