In 1848, with the rejuvenation of the Jewish settlement in Jerusalem, Yitzhak Galina-Shor opened the first winery in Israel, in a basement adjunct to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. During the eight generations since its foundation, 1848 Winery continued to grow and gain recognition for its quality wines, re-positioned into several locations, but maintained a tradition of wine production as a way of life.
The Psagot Rose is a blend of red grape varietals. The grapes are harvested from vineyards located in the Northern Jerusalem Mountains at a height of 700 meters. The wine is a nice looking, very salmon colored, almost fading to a touch of brick color.
Gilgal Cabernet Sauvignon presents ripe raspberry, cherry and plum fruit notes layered with hints of herb, spice and French oak. The Cantinua Giuliano A Mano Cabernet Sauvignon is a limited Super Tuscan production made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is deep garnet in color, with a complex nose, offering notes of cherries, raspberries, with undertones of green notes, wet earth and some toasted oak.
The Argaman variety, which was developed at the Volcani Institute in Israel, produces wines with deep purple color, and pronounced fresh fruit aroma. The Argaman is a strong growing, vigorous variety. It has been used mainly to improve the color of inexpensive table wines.
