A heavily-peated 2011 Port Charlotte single malt from Bruichladdich, PAC:01 has been matured in ex-American whiskey casks for six years before being finished in ex-Pauillac red wine casks for a further two years before bottling.
Nose: Smoke rises with a cloying sweetness. Intense, pungent and aromatic, a distinctive farmyard scent drifts, along with a crunchy aroma, like creosote or tarry rope. A splash of water disturbs the vapours and dark chocolate cream billows, laced with a ribbon of smoked artichoke.
A marriage of 21 casks which have spent 3 months in a traditional marrying TUN. The batch is comprised of whiskies from sherry refill butts, doublewood refill sherry butts and ex bourbon American oak barrels - all aged 21 years and older.
This is a richly honeyed Cardhu - thanks to a finishing in Jamaican Rum casks, a vibrant tropical sweetness awakens. The lush rum cask-rounded flavours and peppery wood-spice combine to create a vibrant taste of paradise.
NOSE: Heady virgin oak, bursting with lemon zest and sweet barley sugar, with delicious notes of apple and nutmeg. PALATE: A delightful sweetness, evoking memories of candied fruits and vanilla toffee, balanced with heather honey. FINISH: A satisfying light spice, with a rewarding burst of honeyed malt and sweet oakiness.
The 2022-release of Glenturret 12 Year Old was matured in a combination of American and European oak casks and bottled in 2022. Aromas of caramelised apples, vanilla custard, creamy oak and baking spices fill the nose, complemented by notes of cherry pie, baked apples, cinnamon, vanilla and oak spice throughout the palate.
Dried fruits ripen, then soften showing off velvet sateen. Vanilla accompanies green apple hand in hand, neither taking the lead. Ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon create an ensemble in the background, with polished oak offering to overstate, yet never does, but plays with a depth of resinous, juicy oranges.
