Boxhead Shiraz 2013
Once a boxhead, always a boxhead. Spicy blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by cracked pepper and dried violet. Juicy, plump, dark-fruit flavors betray no rough edges and are enlivened by a tangy, mineral note. No excess fat here. Finishes bright, with uncommon complexity and length for the price point, making this a remarkable bargain.
100% Shiraz. Produced by Loomwine. Steve Grimley and Anna Reeves established Loomwine in 2005. The name "Loom" references the weaving of different ideas and strengths to create a layered business fabric. Research suggests a collaboration between square-shaped skulls and the production of the finest produce. The squarer the head the better the wine. But why so many boxhead winemakers in the winegrowing regions of South Australia? A defective gene that has mutated over the generations or a need-to-know-basis, top-secret government plan for global domination; pumping brain-altering chemicals into the air? We may never know, but what we do know is this; the product of the boxhead resents some strange ability to create the finest wines.
