Barkan Winery Merlot Reserve Mevushal 2021
Barkan Reserve Merlot is produced using handpicked grapes grown in northern Galilee vineyards. The timing of the harvest is critical in order to achieve the precise balance of taste, color, and sugar. After fermentation the wine is aged for 14 months in American and French oak barrels. This reserve Merlot is full bodied, dark, and balanced with rounded tannins and a bouquet of spice and berry flavors.
Barkan Winery was founded in 1990 by Yair Lerner and Shmuel Boxer. They immediately set forth on a program of modernization and the planting of vineyards in and around Barkan, which they saw as the key to the production of fine wine and expansion of the company. In 2000, a state-of-the-art, modern winery was built in Kibbutz Hulda. This location was chosen because for its proximity to the vineyards of Hulda as well as its central location, close to major roads and removed from urban areas. The winery's location allows the grapes to be quickly transported to the winery, to ensure freshness and to maximize quality. In addition, the strategic location was optimal for distribution of bottled wine to the market. Barkan Winery's bottling facilities were moved to Hulda in 2003, followed by the moving of their offices in 2004.
