Wolf Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Phaedrus 2012
The 2012 Phaedrus was made exclusively from estate grown fruit from the Wolf Family vineyard located just south west of St. Helena against the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains in St. Helena. The Phaedrus Vineyard which is comprised of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 2000 in the westernmost part of the estate on a rocky bench. Each varietal inhabits only a few vine rows and never exceeds more than a ton of grapes.
The 2012 vintage in Napa Valley was near perfect on all accounts, and the wine mirrors these growing conditions. If offers lush fruity aroma and fleshy palate. The 2012 Phaedrus Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys all the benefits of the blended varieties, especially with a healthy dose of Petite Verdot to add depth and a juicy mid palate to an already full-bodied vintage. Malbec offers spice and black cherry aromatics. All of which are supported by the richly textured foundation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 opens up quickly and should offer 10 years or more of enjoyment.
