Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon has a long and mysterious history here in California. It originally arrived in Napa Valley from Mendoza, Argentina in 1964. How it made its way to South America is still unclear, presumably with French winemakers who were leaving Bordeaux in the late 1800s as phylloxera was devastating the region.

This Experiment is an exploration of the age-ability of mountain Merlot. This wine exhibits voluptuous notes of plum, black cherry and cedar which are complemented by notes of violet candies, mulberry, black olive and orange rind.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc this is a tremendous wine offering grippy red-currant tobacco and graphite components around a full-bodied core of weight and breadth. The 2015 Firebelle is their Merlot-dominated cuvée. Coming from the sandy soils called Bale Loam it’s a blend of 71% Merlot 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. This is a more tightly knit wine with loads of lack fruits mocha and coffee bean some licorice and tar. It is deep rich and promising with a huge upside.
