Dark garnet-ruby color. A mix of small red fruits - raspberries, currants, cherries, rhubarb and pomegranate - with toffee andcola nut, beginning to show secondary characteristics.
Clear, firm, quite fresh aroma of red and a little black berries with floral nuances and a touch of citrus zest as well as hints of soup herbs and tar. Taut, tart, juicy, youthful fruit, nutty aromas, a little cocoa and a hint of coffee, some acidity, present, yet fine tannin, persistent, has power, salt in the background, also a little herbs and pepper, quite polished, very good, juicy and spicy finish with traction.
This offers aromas suggesting red berry, coconut, underbrush and menthol. On the focused, rather austere palate, tightly wound, close-grained tannins accompany cranberry, pomegranate and roasted coffee bean before a lean, assertive finish. Give the tannins a few more years to unfurl, then drink to capture the remaining fruit.
Not so intense ruby colored with orange shades. Delicate scent, dry taste.
Two brothers, Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino, run this family estate in Monforte d’Alba. Alessandro managed the vineyards and served as the enologist at Cantina Bartolo Mascarello for 20 years, from 1978 to 1997. Since 1998, he has dedicated himself to running his family estate alongside his brother full-time.
These village-specific wines are growing in popularity, and among the various expressions on the market today, this wine from Verduno is really quite special thanks to its highly distinctive floral aromas and its delicate sense of inner balance. A new project being inaugurated with this vintage, the Fratelli Alessandria 2019 Barolo del Comune di Verduno shows a fine, streamlined mouthfeel with polished tones of river stone, crushed rose and licorice root. The aromas are refined and fragile. This is a 20,000-bottle release.
