Tormaresca Torcicoda 2011
Intense ruby-red color. Vibrant aromas of plum, blackberry, cherry, strawberry, and liquorice along with hints of dried fig lead into spicy tones of licorice and clove. Conjured flavors of cooked berries, anise, pepper, chocolate, and integrated wood notes. Soft and round on the palate with wonderful fruit concentration and a lasting finish. Delightful with roasted meat, pasta with red sauce, seasoned cheese, or spicy soups.
100% Primitivo.Tormaresca means "tower by the sea" and is named after the ancient towers overlooking the Adriatic Sea that lend Puglia its distinctive architectural character. It was founded in 1998 by the Antinori family who recognized Puglia's tremendous potential to produce high-quality wines with a strong territorial identity - the native grapes of Puglia are known for its character, personality, and top quality. Through its two estates in Puglia, Tenuta Bocca di Lupo in the Castel del Monte DOC of northern Puglia and Masseria Maime in the Salento peninsula of Southern Puglia, Tormaresca is able to express two souls - one of tradition and one of innovation and creativity. Torcicoda, meaning "tail twister," takes its name from the ancient tool used to groom horses.
