The Chook Shiraz-Viognier 2013
Full bodied and rich, this wine is made complex by the femininity of its perfumed nose, concentrated, deep-purple/ruby color, fine-grained, balanced tannins, and a sweet and juicy palate. Drink when feasting or talking about your backyard full of chooks. Cellaring for two–three years will intensify complexity and heighten anticipation.
96% Shiraz, 4% Viognier. Produced and bottled by Black Chook Wines, a brand owned by Penny's Hill. As the bigger sibling of Woop Woop, The Chook once again represents a collaboration between Ben Riggs the wine maker at Penny's Hill, and Tony Parkinson, proprietor of Penny's Hill. As mysterious as the blending of viognier (a white grape) with shiraz (the doyen of Australian red-wine grapes) may sound, the resultant amalgation of shiraz and viognier has delivered a wine of predominantly aromatic character.
