This limited edition of Yoichi single malt was introduced in 2021 as the first of the “Nikka Discovery” series. In anticipation of Nikka Whisky’s 90th Anniversary, the series offers an inside look at the various experiments in the whisky-making process that Nikka has practiced over the years.

The first ever Rye Whiskey of the Parker’s Heritage Collection, the 13th edition consists of 75 specialty barrels that were charred for a full minute and a half, as opposed to our traditional 40 seconds. These “Level 5” barrels were aged for 8 years, 9 months on the seventh floor of Rickhouse Y. There, the heavier char allowed the whiskey to penetrate further into the barrel, extracting deep notes of spice and wood, and resulting in an elevation of the spicy, distinctive character of our traditional Rye Whiskey mashbill. It is bottled without chill filtration at 105 proof.

2020 Nikka Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood Finish Barrel Single Malt - a special 2020 release to celebrate the 100th wedding anniversary of Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru and his wife Rita who were married in 1920. It has delicate aromas of apples, this expression showcases a beautiful harmony of finesse and sweetness brought by apple brandy casks and Yoichi single malt's original characteristics such as rich malt flavours, gentle peaty notes and smokiness.

Fine, distinguished. On the first nose, a herbaceous, salty and empyreumatic (sleet) peat clearly dominates. Allowed to breathe, it makes way for fruits (apple, pear, Canary melon), flowers (lily, carnation) and mint, all of which bring lots of momentum to the aroma palette. Gradually, it becomes increasingly milky (cream, coconut), exotic (pineapple, yellow kiwi) and medicinal (ointment,arnica).

A full-bodied aroma of sweet vanilla butter cream & lightly toasted oak, banana bread & a hint of berries. Baking spices & rye toast complement a medley of orchard fruits with sweet notes of orange marmalade with lingering dark chocolate on the finish.
