The Dalmore Distillery has been producing exceptional single malt whisky since 1839 and, for almost a century, was owned by the Clan Mackenzie. This expression is presented at natural cask strength, as was the custom before the turn of the 20th century. Add a drop or two of water to reveal a cornucopia of flavour - from richly spiced bramble wine to chocolate raisin and lingering Seville orange peel. Such is the reward of their eleventh batch of the GlenDronach Cask Strength, a richly sherried Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in fine Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry Casks.
“Madly sited”, perched high between two mountain ranges on a pass once a meeting point for cattle drovers on their way to market. The name Dalwhinnie translates from Gaelic as “Plain of Meetings”. Surviving periods of closure, the distillery has produced its distinctive single malt since 1947, only being completely modernized in 1996. Dalwhinnie has the coldest annual mean temperature of any inhabited place in Scotland and is so cold in winter, that the water in the outside worm tubs can freeze. That very coldness lends an intensity to the spirit that is even more marked in winter.
