This stylish Lalique crystal decanter pays homage to Macallan’s curiously small stills – which are essential to creating the distillery’s heavyweight, concentrated spirit. Very sweet with a smooth, creamy texture, this is a Speyside whisky with chocolate and custard notes early on that indicate the dessert nature of this tipple, with slight zesty, tropical fruity notes showing that it also has a vibrant side. There are lemon notes throughout this dram, as well as vanilla sponge and marzipan that demonstrate the softer side of this whisky.
Tamnavulin, from Tomnavoulin, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, is one of the many distilleries built in the boom period of the 1960s to keep up with the public interest. Sweet and zesty with lots of fruity notes – such as pineapple, grapefruit and banana – through most of the dram but the finish is more mellow and provides a calming, smooth end to the experience.
Founded during the ‘whisky boom’ of the late 19th century, Aultmore Distillery has changed hands several times throughout the years. This Speyside bottling has prominent Christmassy notes of orange peel, cinnamon sticks, dried fruits and walnuts. A great dram for those who enjoy something on the sweeter side.
