Unicum was invented in 1790 in Hungary and is one of the oldest herbal liqueurs in Europe. The liqueur is made with more than 40 herbs from a secret formula created by Dr. Jozef Zwack and after six generations the company is still family owned. Unicum is regarded as a national Hungarian drink and the 80 proof (40 percent) liqueur is typically drunk as an aperitif or digestif.
