Penfolds has unveiled the first champagne made by an Australian winery at an event held overnight at the Hotel Ritz, Paris. To mark Penfolds' 175th anniversary, the South Australian winery has collaborated with independent champagne house Thienot to create three champagnes from its 2012 vintage.

Medium to full-bodied, generous but incisive, it’s deep and elegantly fleshy, with a beautifully refined mousse and an enveloping core of fruit that’s complemented by the characteristic Krug patina of nutty complexity.
At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance. On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper & pink grapefruit. On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus & dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles.
Aromas of orange marmalade, brioche, & apple tart pave the way for soft bubbles that dissipate quickly on the palate. The gentle glide continues with notes of honeysuckle, apricot, & tarragon before the finish of tart lemon drop is highlighted by a touch of salinity.
